Practice policies

Confidentiality:

Therapy is a safe place to discuss very personal information. With this understanding, all of the information on the intake form and in therapy sessions is confidential and may not be shared with anyone without your written consent, except when disclosure is required by law. Disclosure may be required in circumstances such as a reasonable suspicion of child or elder abuse or a reasonable suspicion that a patient presents a danger to him/herself or others.

Case Consultation:

There are times during our work together where you/I may feel it would be beneficial for your team of care providers (midwife, OB, doula, and/or psychiatrist) to discuss your overall well being. If either of us decide this to be the case, we will discuss it in session and obtain your written consent before communication begins.

Fees and Payment:

I attempt to make my services as accessible as possible. I offer a sliding scale fee for individuals and couples therapy and trust that you will base what you’re able to pay on your income and abilities. I do offer a superbill at the end of each month for people who have out of network coverage. I also offer discounted packages, which are to be used within 2 months. Please contact me to discuss my fees.

Full payment is due at each session, unless other arrangements are made. Packages of sessions are prepaid at the first session. I accept payment by check, in cash, or by Venmo (Nurture-Bklyn) or Chase QuickPay (Elizabeth-Mangum).

Health Insurance:

At this time, I work with insurances who provide out-of-network mental or behavioral health benefits. Some providers require pre-certification or pre-authorization of these services. Please check with your insurance provider to determine this. You will also want to know about your deductible (amount you have to spend for all medical services, not just mental health, before they begin to reimburse you), co-insurance (percentage insurance pays and percentage you pay for each service), and how many sessions they will cover each year.

I provide a monthly receipt/superbill that is suitable for filing health insurance claims. This requires me to give a diagnostic code, which I will explain to you. This receipt is also suitable for flexible spending accounts through employment or for income taxes.

Scheduling:

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation. Once you decide to move forward, our initial session together is one hour and after that each individual session is 55 minutes and sessions for couples are one hour. There may be times when we can extend a session, if needed; however, I am respectful of everyone’s time and will do my best to keep us to a 55 min session.

I see people in my office in Park Slope on Mondays (3-9pm) and Wednesdays (1-9pm). I will accommodate your scheduling needs as best I can. I offer phone/Facetime sessions, at the same rate, as well as in-home sessions for an additional fee (mainly for clients who are in the first 12 weeks of the postpartum period). My schedule changes periodically, so please contact me for current availability.

If you have a pre-crawling baby and want or need to bring him/her, you are welcome to do so. Please bring a blanket for your baby to lie on during the session. My only concern is that you feel comfortable having your baby with you and can get all you need from your session without distraction.

Cancellations:

While I completely understand that life in NYC (and with a baby!) can be unpredictable, I have to implement a policy that respects my time and the time of my other clients. I appreciate your understanding around this issue.

If you need to cancel an appointment, please notify me as soon as possible by phone, text, or email, at least 24 hours in advance (no later than 6:00 pm the day before your scheduled appointment) or you will be held responsible for the full cost of the session.

I will always confirm that I have received your cancellation. If you don’t hear back from me, please contact me again as confirmation is required to consider your appointment cancelled. If you have a true emergency (not an illness but a personal or family emergency, etc…) and are unable to attend your session in person, you can choose to have your appointment via FaceTime or phone. I’ll do my best to reschedule if you request an alternate appointment to take place before your next scheduled appointment; however, payment will be due whether you attend this appointment or not.

Thank you for offering me the honor and privilege of guiding you along your journey towards healing! I look forward to working together!
